This book is concerned with the problems of historiography of Arabic literature in its various temporal stages, as it deals with issues of origin and concept, and reveals the share of Arabic literature from historiography in the books of Arab heritage, and the efforts of both Arabs and Orientalists in the history of Arabic literature. It studies the philosophical starting points and the theoretical foundations on which the history of literature is based. The book reveals six philosophical theories on which the methodologies of the history of Arabic literature relied.
The book deals with problems related to the methods of literary historiography, such as the chronological division, the artistic division, and according to literary schools. It also deals with the problems of regional division and focuses on the problems related to the parties of the discourse: the historian, the dated material, and the recipient.
