This book documents the history of the sustainable development program from its launch in 1990 till today. Important elements of this program included a sequence of several stages, each of which gained scrutiny with respect to their own content. The focus of these stages brought to attention two interrelated elements: formation and empowerment. The process of formation took the longest course to mature, lasting from 1990 to 2016. On the other hand, the process of empowerment started since the beginning of 2017 as it was organically linked to the sustainable development agenda. Currently, the dynamic meeting of the content and path of this approach, along with the reforms of the United Nations, continue to provide support for countries to implement goals of sustainable development. The program is currently undergoing a comprehensive series of changes to achieve justice and human equality along with maintaining the sustainability of the ecosystem and protecting the life perpetuation of our planet, in furtherance of its targeted role as an alternative to the existing neoliberal economic order.
The book includes thirteen chapters, as well as an introduction, a conclusion, references, and an index.
