This book examines the emergence of the Turkish political system, the various stages of its development, its internal functional structure, its ideological and political roots, and the role and impact of the AKP political party in transforming the overall Turkish political system. The study aims to uncover the ambiguities surrounding the capacity for the AKP Party to harmonize its Islamic values with the remnants of the Ottoman culture, the successes of governing in a hardline secular state, and its ability to introduce reforms to the Kemalist values and secular institutions that make up the whole of the Turkish political system.
