The Center for Arab Unity Studies has published the book The Arab Renaissance Project: Ideas on Civilizational Renewal by Professor and writer Sassin Assaf.
The question of Arab civilizational renewal remains on the Arab scene, at its various philosophical, political and social levels, especially among intellectual elites, who have taken upon themselves the burden of this question and worked to answer it, since at least the beginning of the last century, when the Arabs found themselves facing the challenge of civilizational revival and renewal to get out of the stagnation that had afflicted them for centuries.
Despite the fact that a century has passed since this question was first raised, the Arabs still stand before it in light of civilizational developments in the world that are accelerating in pace, diversity, and depth, in a way that gives new meanings and dimensions to this question with every major transformation that human civilization experiences. The Arabs find themselves in relation to it in the position of the absent, the late, or the marginalized at best.
In this book, Sassin Assaf renews the debate, from a philosophical perspective, on the most prominent issues of the question of Arab civilizational renewal, and the most important problems that these issues faced in the Arab political and social reality and in the wider global environment, through texts and literature of thinkers in Arab Renaissance political and philosophical thought, such as the conceptual problems of the Renaissance titles, including democracy, independence, sovereignty, unity, Arabism, Islam, modernity and heritage, cultural diversity and artificial identities, the state and citizenship, the self and the other, identity and globalization, language and cultural alienation, politics and ethics, education and contemporary sciences… all of which are titles that have faced and continue to face major problems on the Arab scene that require a renewed search for them according to a contemporary critical reading.
