The Center for Arab Unity Studies released the fourth edition of the book The Iraqi Revolt of 1920: The Political, Intellectual, and Social Roots of the Arab Nationalist Movement in Iraq by Dr. Wamid Jamal Omar Nazmi.
Much has been written about the 1920 revolt in Iraq, its causes, motives, orientations and goals, the classes, trends, and political movements involved, as well as its failures and achievements. Much of what has been written on the topic has so far been very fragmented by conflicting views on the revolution and the forces that participated in it. Some saw it as a nationalist unitary movement and a national independence movement, while others considered it merely to be a tribal or religious reaction to the status quo.
In this book, Wamid Nazem offers an indepth research on the Iraqi uprisings which effectively captures the different aspects of the revolution through its the analysis of historical events, sociopolitical and national aspects, the forces behind the scenes that orchestrated the revolution, the impact of the uprisings on British policy in Iraq, as well as on democratic, constitutional, national and national awarenesses, the movement national independence itself, and future outlooks on the political setup in Iraq.
