The Center for Arab Unity Studies, in cooperation with the “Arab NGO Network for Development”, published the book Development and Poverty: A Critical Review of Concepts and Measuring Tools by Adib Nehmeh.
The book follows a critical and polemical approach and reviews a large number of studies, starting with a critique of the results and ending with a critique of measurement methods and theoretical approaches, with two separate chapters in the first section of the book devoted to the theoretical aspects of defining development and defining poverty. On the practical side, the book includes a direct critical review of 35 reports and studies on poverty (from the 1990s to 2019), including reports issued by Arab countries.
This book has a direct benefit for students of economic and social sciences, as well as, development and their professors. It is also essential for practitioners who work in this field in international organizations, or civil society organizations, or in governmental institutions and for policy makers. They can find in it direct examples of reports on their countries, in addition to unconventional Theoretical Analysis of poverty.
