The Center of Arab Unity Studies published the book De-constructing Capitalism: Exploring the Deterioration in the Human Environmental Common by Elhoucine Chougrani and Abderrazak Belmir.
Capitalism has caused a great deal of human misery, and the dynamics of globalization have contributed to the weakening of the role of the state, fueling cultural conflicts and fragmenting local identities. On the other hand, the free market reinforced the idea of “Let him work, let him pollute”. The world has been transformed into a global village under the pretext of economic interdependence, so the basic roles of the state have been reduced in order to exercise the minimum functions of protecting the environmental human common. In this context, nature is no longer that powerful myth that subjugated man and always demonstrated to him the limits of his power, but rather it has become something fragile and threatened by human and technological activities, as it has become completely unable to defend itself just like any human being, so it became the subject of human responsibility. It is his duty to protect it from danger, and to preserve it for the benefit of future generations, and to criticize of the approach of endless economic growth, by answering the question: Do we have to preserve capitalist accumulation, or is it our duty to resolve environmental destruction?
