Artificial Intelligence and the Revolutionization of Prophetic Sunnah Resources

The Center for Arab Unity Studies has published the book Artificial Intelligence and the Revolutionization of Prophetic Sunnah Resources by Dr. Hasan M. Al-Rizzo.

This book presents a forward-looking vision for employing generative artificial intelligence in the service of the Prophetic Sunnah and revealing its cognitive treasures. It represents a serious attempt to bridge the gap created by the decline in efforts to investigate the sciences of “Hadith”, and the scarcity of scholars capable of mastering the craft of “Hadith” in terms of knowledge and narration. The book presents the evolution of intelligent computer processors, starting with expert systems that attempted to simulate the expert’s decision in critical decision-making, through fuzzy logic that dealt with the issues of certainty and probability in evaluating narrators, then neural networks that sought to simulate textual patterns, and finally cognitive mining techniques that revealed the deep cognitive structure of texts.

Generative artificial intelligence represents an unprecedented leap forward, transcending the boundaries of statistical analysis to encompass contextual understanding and knowledge reproduction. It has become possible to analyze chains of “Isnad”, compare the statements of hadith scholars (al-jarh wa al-ta’dil), explore hidden relationships between texts (matn), and connect hadiths to their historical and jurisprudential contexts. It can even uncover the details and additions to a hadith at a level approaching that of hadith critics. However, the book emphasizes that artificial intelligence is not a replacement for the critical approach of hadith scholars. Rather, it can be harnessed as a knowledge partner, revealing their critical methodologies and the cognitive frameworks that ensured the purity of “Hadith” from fabrication and extraneous elements.
