The Center for Arab Unity Studies released the book Arab Media Systems by a group of researchers (edited by Carola Richter and Claudia Kozman).

This book provides a comparative analysis of media systems in Arab countries based on criteria that refer to historical, political, social and economic factors that affect these systems in each country. The contributions of experts included in this book are not limited to the classic Western classifications of media systems, but rather provide specialized illuminations dealing with the differentiation that characterizes the fields of media and communication in the Arab region. The book focuses on trends in government attitudes toward media, media ownership patterns, technological innovation, and the role that transnational mobility plays in shaping media structure and practices.

Each chapter in this book presents a study of a country’s media by analyzing its media system through its historical roots, political and legal framework, media economics and ownership patterns, technology and infrastructure, and social factors (including gender, age, ethnic diversity, religions, and languages). Thus, this book is a contribution that fills a void in the field of media studies, as it is the only book in years that provides a comprehensive view of Arab media systems. Therefore, this book represents an indispensable reference for specialists and students of media and communication, in addition to political and social scientists concerned with the Arab region.
