Introduction:

This book provides a compelling account of the role of women in resistance movements, focusing specifically on Palestinian women imprisoned by the Israelis between the 1960s and the 1980s. The book is especially welcome given the way in which this subject has been neglected hitherto or else wilfully misrepresented. Every argument advanced by the author Nahla Abdo, herself a veteran of the Palestinian struggle, is substantiated in the body of evidence she has collected from Palestinian women forced to endure detention without trial, humiliation, torture and sexual assault for extended periods in Israeli gaols.
