The Center for Arab Unity Studies, in cooperation with the Lebanese Association of Women Researchers, published the association’s nineteenth specialized book (2023-2024), entitled Arab Women and Authorities: In the Shadow of Digitization and Information Chaos.

Given the endless possibilities available for accessing information, and the difficulties and complexities of verifying the accuracy and legitimacy of such information, researchers have been asking to what extent the virtual world has facilitated women’s emergence from the prevailing traditional structures. In other words, has the information available to women opened the door to broader horizons? Has their departure from traditional frameworks liberated them from restrictions, or has the virtual space, controlled by a group of interests and a handful of monopolies that have established themselves above states and governments, placed them under the burden of other, more modern restrictions and contributed to shaping their outlook on life? What are the pitfalls, obstacles, and harms that may result from misuse and misinformation? How have women positioned themselves in this space, and how have they benefited? What are the conditions required to achieve this benefit? To what extent are the aspects of benefit if found related to their real-life situations, on the one hand, and the reality of virtual space, which is governed by speed, horizontality and momentary realities, and sometimes characterized by uncertainty? The difficulty in answering these questions lies in the fact that they affect different segments and categories of Arab women, whose information practices may take different forms depending on their class, age group, or social environment.

Twenty-three Arab researchers contributed to the book, presenting studies and articles on various issues related to Arab women’s issues and authorities in the digital age.
