Lt. General Saad El-Shazly, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces during the October 1973 war, is considered one of the most prominent Arab military leaders in modern history. His life, which spanned nearly 90 years, witnessed many events that intersected with the history of the Arab region in the twentieth century.
This book includes personal and professional testimonies about El-Shazly, dealing with the stages of his military and political career, starting with his participation in Egypt’s major wars over a period of 25 years, and his innovative ideas that he presented to the armed forces during the planning phase of the October War, as well as his diplomatic work as ambassador of Egypt in London and Lisbon, then announcing his opposition to the late Egyptian President Anwar Sadat’s signing of the “peace” agreement with Israel, then his political asylum in Algeria for 14 years, and the establishment of the “Egyptian National Front” to oppose the regime in Egypt.
The book also deals with the details of the case in which El-Shazly was accused of divulging military secrets, and was sentenced to three years in prison, in addition to the details and dimensions of the deliberate blackout he was subjected to since his release from prison until the end of his life, and its connection with the nature of his relationship with the late President Hosni Mubarak.
