Since 2003, The Center for Arab Unity Studies, in cooperation with the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute – SIPRI, continues to publish the Arabic version of the book Armaments, Disarmament and International Security, which SIPRI has issued annually since 1966. This fifty-first annual book deals with the most prominent events related to armed conflicts and armaments around the world. It also presents the disarmament processes and peace and armistice agreements that occur in areas experiencing civil wars or interstate conflicts.
The book follows the most prominent military and security developments around the world and the transformations that have occurred at the strategic level, monitoring arms movements and the arms trade and controlling them globally. It also presents the impact of climate change on international security and stability, and the security risks that threaten millions of people and the fate of major cities and entire countries whose social stability may be compromised, and whose economic and political stability might stand on shaky grounds as a result of global warming and the resulting fires, floods and storms that have been increasing in recent years as a result of climate change. This calls for cooperation between countries through international law to strengthen international laws and procedures to confront this climate threat.
The chapters of the book deal with global developments in various continents and countries of the world, and it refers to the peace processes that took place between countries and the conflicting poles in some regions, defining the concepts and types of armed conflicts and providing tables containing figures on the number of conflicts and peace agreements that occurred from 2010 to 2019, and in light of the continuing impact of the Corona epidemic on the world and the new global economic crisis it may generate. The book also deals with the danger of biological and chemical weapons.
