The Center for Arab Unity Studies published the book Israeli Energy Projects in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Arab National Security Challenges by Dr. Abdallah M. Elmalawani.

The recent discoveries of gas and oil fields in the eastern basin of the Mediterranean Sea have exposed the Arab Levant region, and the Middle East in general, to a new phase of international competition on the one hand, and on the prospects and opportunities for economic partnership governed by challenges and obstacles that are intertwined and interconnected with the geopolitical conflicts rooted in the region, on the other hand. The most prominent of which is the problem of dividing the region into multiple entities, most of which were created based on the demarcation of artificial geographical borders due to which the region is still immersed in various disputes and conflicts, and then the problem of the Zionist entity that was planted in the land of Palestine in 1948 as a racist settler-colonial project in the Arab region seeking to control its land, and its natural resources, and to control the region’s economies and influence their policies, which has so far prevented the provision of objective conditions for partnership in energy projects in the Eastern Mediterranean countries.

This book deals with the theoretical and practical frameworks of international interactions in the Eastern Mediterranean region, and analyzes the events that redrew the geopolitical map of this region, and opened the way for the integration of “Israel” and maximizing its position in the regional system, at the expense of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and Arab rights in general in the Eastern Mediterranean. The book explains and analyzes the relationship between energy sources in the eastern Mediterranean basin and energy security in the State of “Israel”, according to which it transformed from an importing “state” to an energy-exporting “state”, which enabled it to strengthen its regional position. The book reveals Israeli attempts to dominate the energy industry in the Eastern Mediterranean, and also shows the challenges that this industry poses to Arab national security.
